Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI)

The Apnea Hypopnea Index.

Breathe Medical’s goal is to reduce the patient’s AHI to less than 5.

Apnea Hypopnea Index is the measurement of severity caused by sleep apnea based on the total number of complete stops (apnea) and partial obstructions (hypopnea) of breathing occurring per hour of sleep. AHI is recorded during the patient’s overnight sleep study.

0 – 5 AHI (Breathe Medical’s goal): Normal
5 – 15 AHI: Mild Sleep Apnea
15 – 30 AHI: Moderate Sleep Apnea
30 and higher AHI: Severe Sleep Apnea
